Printer configuration

Printer configuration

Note: setting up your printer for the first time is an advanced topic and should be performed by your IT administrator or vendor.

This article describes the process of configuring an EPSON TM-T82III thermal printer with an accompanying Wi-Fi dongle to be used for docket printing with Embrayse. The instructions below are based on a Windows PC, but should be largely the same for a Mac / OS-X device. Once the printer has been configured, any device that is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer and has the appropriate SSL certificate installed (see step 13) will be able to print.
  1. Ensure that the Wi-Fi dongle is connected to the printer, and the printer is turned on.

  2. You will see EPSON_Printer as a Wi-Fi network. Connect to it (note that this will disconnect you from any existing Wi-Fi connection and you will temporarily lose internet connectivity).

  3. Open your browser (Chrome shown here) and navigate to https://192.168.192.168. When prompted with a certificate related security error, click Proceed:

  4. When prompted for credentials, use epson as Username and the device serial number, found on the back of the device, as password:

  5. In the Wireless section, enter your Wi-Fi router details and click Send. Use the Wi-Fi details for the network that both your printer and your devices (which will be using Embrayse) will connect to. When prompted, click Reset:

Wait until the printer prints some information including a new IP address. Your printer is now connected to your Wi-Fi router and your devices can communicate with it without connecting directly to the printer.

  6. Disconnect from the EPSON_Printer Wi-Fi and connect to your own Wi-Fi router.

  7. In the browser navigate to the new IP address that was printed for you. Repeat steps 3 and 4 when you see certificate errors and credentials dialog.

  8. Select the SSL/TLS menu option and click Create under Self-Signed Certificate:

  9. For the Common Name use the IP address of the printer and set the validity to 10 years. Click Create. As before, Reset the device when prompted.

Note: Once the device reset has completed, you may see the following screen:

In this case, simply refresh the page and bypass any certificate error as before.

  10. (Optional) From the TCP/IP menu you can change the IP address of the device if you need to. We recommend leaving this as the automatically assigned IP address.

  11. From the ePOS-Print menu, enable this functionality. Leave all other parameters as their default. Send the changes and Reset the printer.

  12. Export the site certificate to a .cer file. You can do this by viewing the certificate from the browser address bar, and using the Copy to Fileā€¦ wizard to export the file:

  13. The certificate you exported must be installed as a Trusted Root Certificate on any device that requires to print. Typically, these would be the tablets used for Embrayse. You can use mobile device management software (MDM) such as InTune to do this.

  14. Ensure to reserve the IP address of the printer on your router to avoid it being re-allocated to other devices.

  15. You are now ready to set up the printer in Embrayse. Browse to the Embrayse application as an admin user and go to Settings > Printers and click Add Printer to set up your printer:

    Use the following settings:
    1. Name: This can be any name that makes sense for you.
    2. Device ID: Leave this as local_printer.
    3. IP Address: Use the IP address of the printer.
    4. Port: Leave this as 8043.
    5. Top Margin and Bottom Margin: This determines how much blank space is inserted at the top and bottom of dockets.
