Setting up your TV

Setting up your TV

Once you have enabled TV menus in Embrayse, you can display it on a TV. The menu board is a webpage and can be displayed on any TV with a 16:9 (landscape) form factor and a full screen browser, however we recommend Google TV (either built-in or using Chromecast with Google TV). Ensure Google TV is set up, connected to WiFi internet, and logged in. The steps below show how to set up the menu boards with Google TV.

  1. We first need to prevent Google TV from showing screensavers or turning off due to inactivity. Navigate to the Settings area of Google TV:

  2. Go to Settings > System > About and keep selecting the Android TV OS Build option in quick succession until you see a message like You are now a developer!

  3. Go back, navigate to Settings > System > Developer options and enable the Stay Awake option:

  4. Under System > Power and energy set Turn off display to Never:

  5. Under System > Date and time > Set time zone make sure your time zone is selected correctly.

  6. Using your Google TV remote control, navigate to Apps:

  7. Select the Search for apps and games input and type in tv bro:

  8. Install the TV Bro app by Plox Development:

  9. Navigate back to the Apps screen and scroll right in the apps list to find TV Bro. If you can't find it, select the See all option to see a full list of all your apps:

  10. Long-press the select button to bring up the context menu. Select Move:

  11. Move TV Bro to the first position in the app list, using the arrow and select buttons. This will make it easier to start up TV Bro again later, for example if the TV is restarted:

  12. Open TV Bro. If prompted, leave the search engine as Google and click Save:

  13. The TV menus are best presented in "White Theme". To configure this, press the Back button on the remote control, then select the gear icon at the top. From Theme dropdown, select White:

You'll need to restart TV Bro for the theme change to take effect. Close the settings and the app using the X button at the top left, then restart TV Bro.

  14. Press the Back button on the remote control in order to see the browser header. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the web address input, then type in the menu URL which you obtained when you enabled TV menus in Embrayse, then click the search button:

  15. The menu should now be visible:

  16. In order to avoid having to type in the URL in the future, you can bookmark it. Press the Back button on the remote control and press the Star (bookmark) button at the top:

  17. Select Add when prompted and then Done:

  18. The set up is now complete. The menu board will automatically cycle through meal services and posters. If the chef changes the menu, the changes will appear on the TV after 10 minutes at most. If Google TV is restarted, then simply start TV Bro, and it should automatically show the menu as it was the last page you visited. If the browser tab that is showing the menu is closed, open a new tab in TV bro, and select the Embrayse URL which you bookmarked.
