Meals View

Meals View

Meals view shows orders grouped by menu item. Use this view when preparing food in the kitchen to see how many portions of each meal you need to cook.

Before You Begin

Make sure you understand how to navigate and filter the prep report. See Navigating and Filtering the Prep Report for details.

Switching to Meals View

  1. Open the prep report by selecting Prep from the main menu.
  2. Select Meals at the top of the page.

Understanding Meals View

Meals view groups all orders by menu item. Each row shows:
  • Meal name with category badge (e.g., Main, Side, Dessert)
  • Total number of orders for that meal
  • Recipe button (if a recipe exists)

To see who ordered each meal:
  • Select any meal row to expand it.
  • The list shows all residents who ordered that item.

Order Details for Each Resident

When you expand a meal, you see details for each resident's order:
  • Resident name and room number - Who ordered it and where they are
  • Away status badge - Shows if resident is away
  • Dietary badges - Quick view of allergies, conditions, diets, and tags
  • Serving size - S (Small), M (Medium), or L (Large)
  • Texture or thickness - IDDSI level like "Pureed" or "Minced & Moist"
  • Special instructions - Any notes about preparation
  • Selected options - Dish options like "No onions" or "Extra sauce"
  • Dining location - Where the resident will eat (dining room or their own room)

Info
Note: Recently changed orders (modified in the last 30 minutes) are highlighted to help you spot updates.

Viewing Full Resident Dietary Profile

To see complete dietary information for a resident:
  1. Find the resident in the expanded meal list.
  2. Select the person icon next to their name.

A panel opens showing the resident's full dietary profile including allergies, medical conditions, dietary restrictions, texture requirements, and notes.

Residents with No Order

At the bottom of the meals list, you'll see a special group called "Residents with No Order". This shows residents who haven't had an order collected for this meal service.

Info
Note: This helps you identify who still needs to be asked about their meal preferences.

Viewing Recipes

If the chef has entered a recipe for a meal, you can view it.
  1. Find the meal in the list.
  2. Select Recipe next to the meal name.

The recipe view opens showing:
  • Number of servings the recipe makes
  • List of ingredients with quantities
  • Preparation instructions

Adjusting Recipe Quantities

The recipe converter automatically adjusts ingredient quantities based on how many portions you need.

To convert a recipe:
  1. Open the recipe for a meal.
  2. Look at the current serving size (shown at the top).
  3. The recipe shows quantities for the default servings, but also displays how many orders you need to prepare.
  4. Select [number] (Ordered) to automatically multiply all ingredients.
  5. To adjust for extra portions, use the +/- buttons or directly type in the number into the Servings input.

Idea
Tip: Always prepare a few extra portions as backup. Use the recipe converter to adjust quantities precisely.
Alert
Warning: Recipe conversions are estimates only. They don't account for ingredients that aren't scaled proportionally, such as reused oil or seasonings that don't multiply directly. Use the converted quantities as a guide and adjust based on your cooking experience.

Recipe Display Options

When viewing a recipe:
  • Increase text size - Use the text size buttons to make the recipe easier to read from a distance
  • Full screen - Select the full screen button to hide other elements
  • Print - Select the print option for a printer-friendly version

Tips

  • Expand all meals at once using Expand all to see the full list of what needs to be prepared
  • Use filters to focus on specific tasks (e.g., show only pureed meals when preparing pureed food)
  • Check recently changed orders (highlighted) to catch any last-minute modifications
  • View recipes before starting preparation to gather all ingredients
